Detailed background stamps are absolutely beautiful, especially the level of detail captured in red rubber stamps, but I’ve often been stumped for the different ways to use them. This article looks at three different ways to use detailed background stamps, to help make the most of our supplies.
The cards I’m sharing today all feature large detailed background stamps from Hero Arts in their Peek-a-Boo range. These stamps are really fun and innovative, in that there is a co-ordinating peek a boo die that creates little ‘doors’ for each of these images.
Monochromatic
My personal favourite way to use detailed background stamps, is with a monochromatic colour scheme. In the image above I've coloured the Hero Arts Bookcase stamp in shades of green pencil, and added a simple sentiment banner in the top left.
The image below shows certain elements of the Hero Arts Mail Jumble background coloured in a pink / red / peach monochromatic scheme, and I've added some red string and a sentiment on a tag to tie in with the letters / parcel theme.
Window
An easy way to use a background stamp, without the image becoming overwhelming, is to use a window die. Here I've used a simple circle die to cut away part of the coloured background image, and placed my sentiment over the window.
Focal Point
Another way to incorporate background stamps in to your cards is as a focal point. I've used the left over circle from the window card above as a focal point, and used tone on tone stamping behind the focal point so the image appears seamless.
